by John Lawrence

A former POW tells of his five long years as a captive in Eastern Europe in WW2

Captured near Dunkirk in May 1940, John Lawrence spent the rest of the war as a Prisoner of War at various camps in Nazi-occupied eastern Europe.

In this entertaining account he not only remembers the hardship of forced labour and starvation rations but also records many moments of humour and numerous examples of human kindness, generosity and comradeship from fellow prisoners, sympathetic local citizens and even some of those whose job it was to guard the prisoners of war.

Illustrated with cartoons depicting some of the characters with whom the author came into contact in the course of his captivity.
